The participating experts discussed especially measures for the mitigation of climate change impacts on the sea and the adaptation to climate change, against the acidification of the oceans, to preserve the biological diversity and to recover the fish stocks. Furthermore it was discussed how those measures can be implemented faster and more effective than before. Included in those measures is amongst others the foundation of an European Ocean Alliance which should improve the cooperation on an European and global scale.

After the long-time engagement on the field of sustainable development of the ocean, the Dräger Foundation retires from this field. The German Ocean Foundation (in the course of formation) will continue this work in the future and also the development of the European Ocean Alliance - in Kooperation with other German and European stakeholders.
