Yann Arthus-Bertrand aboard ALDEBARAN

On the 29th of January, the famous French filmmakers Yann Arthus-Bertrand and his college Michael Pitiot were visiting the Research and Media vessel ALDEBARAN in the harbour of Hamburg. For the occasion of the German premier of their new film “Planet Ocean” a cooperation was agreed upon between Bertrand’s “Good Planet Faundation” (www.goodplanet.info) and the media vessel ALDEBARAN during a small trip through the floating ice sheets. Almost 20 journalists welcomed the French moviemaker and congratulated him for his new production. Bertrand and ALDEBARAN initiator Frank Schweikert have known each other since the production of “Home”, a unique film about the change of the world seen from the sky.

In this connection, ALDEBARAN announces this year’s marine competition (Meereswettbewerb 2013). The popular competition deals with the topics: nitrogen cycle, climate change and biological diversity. Further, it is planned to also put a focus on the world’s natural heritage site Wadden Sea, next to the river Elbe. Different activities are planned for this unique habitat. Among others, the competition for young scientists is sponsored by Panasonic and the “Dräger Foundation”.
