Over the last two decades the term "biodiversity" has gained increasing attention and importance on a scientific, social or political level. Thus, the United Nations declared the years 2011-2020 the UN Decade of Biodiversity.
The promotion of biodiversity conservation plays a very important role in the engagement of the people to the issues. The marine biodiversity on our blue planet has been significantly affected. Oil tanker disasters, plastic waste, high-tech fishing fleets and ocean acidification threaten our marine plant and animal species and their ecosystems necessary for survival.
For this reason, ALDEBARAN Marine Research & Broadcast is especially committed to give people experience in marine research and increase their knowledge and awareness of species diversity on our planet. This year we will take part in the days of action "diversity experience" in Lübeck as a guest. The action on 31 May to 2 June is being organised by the Environment, Nature and Consumer Protection of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and the Museum of Nature and Environment. In cooperation with the scientific management Lübeck and Hamburg GEO Media we offer the following unique competition:
During the period prior to the action days, a competition is conducted with the winners (groups of 4 -6 persons aged 14 years) completing a day on the ALDEBARAN to develop their project. The offer is advertised in Germany in collaboration with the GEO magazine to encourage young and old to participate.
